A beam of light with red and blue components of wavelengths670 nm and 425 nm, respectively, strikes a slab of fused quartz atan incident angle of 30o. On refraction, the different componentsare separated by an angle of 1.31 X 10-3 rad. If the index ofrefraction of the red light is 1.4925, what is the index ofrefraction of the blue light?

      Given that incident angle(i) for both light waves is300
      Angular seperation is 1.31 X 10-3 rad =0.23580
      Let us consider the angle of refractions are rr& rb
      Therefore rr -rb = 0.23580____________(1)
      As per Snell's law n = sin i / sin r.
      For red light nr = sin ir / sinrr______(2)   & For blue lightnb = sin ib / sinrb ____________(3)
      Given that nr = 1.4925 & nb =?
      From the above equation-(2) Sin rr = Sinir / nr
                                                       =Sin 30 / 1.4925.
                                                     = 0.335.
      Therefore rr = 19.570
      From eq--(1) rb = 19.33420
      From eq--(3) nb = Sin 300 / Sin19.33420
                                  nb = 1.52102
